Barbados is a large ocean state, and an island host to unique biodiversity. To commemorate Environment Month, the Ministry of Environment and National Beautification, Green and Blue Economy will be showcasing the cutting-edge research that is being undertaken by the ministry and its partners in its Research Frontiers Symposium.

With the theme ‘Environmental Research for National Development’, the two-day symposium is set to inform audiences on the technological transformation of the fishing industry, the process of planning the use of an ocean space which expands more than 187,000 km2, new innovations in waste characterization and recycling, and revelations of endemic species which inhabit the island’s gully ecosystems.

Discussions will also center around the challenges encountered in environmental research, and the role sustainable financing plays in taking research from concept to reality.
