Despite leaving us at the young age of 16, he made a lasting impact on his family and community. As an avid fisher, surfer, and musician, he was a youngster of many talents. Amalee passed away on May 1st, 2020 while diving in the area of Tent Bay, St. Joseph, where today, one will see a plaque in memory of him.

In light of his impact, annually on May 1st, a memorial walk and fun day is held in his honour. This year, the community walked from the Alleyne School to the Hillcrest Community Center. The fun day at the Centre included a performance by the Alleyne School band, interactive games including 'How well do you know Amalee?,' and the highly anticipated game of tug of war. Delicious Fish soup and Roy Thompson's famous Barracuda Ceviche was also a main feature of the day.

Amalee will always be remembered as a young, bright beacon in the fishing industry for his passion for the art and be awarded the top junior Angler in the Grenada international fishing tournament. In honour of Amalee, next year's Junior Anglers Tournament will be named the '2027 Amalee Mayers Memorial Junior Anglers Tournament'. Forever in Our hearts.
