The Barbados Fisheries Division hosted a youth engagement session entitled "Fishy Business" in Oistins on Friday, 8 August 2025. The session which hosted 25 students between the ages of 14-18 years, was delivered in collaboration with the Oistins Fisherfolk Forward Association, the Oceana BlueX Accelerator Programme and the UNDP Accelerator Lab.
The session's objective was to promote sustainable fisheries with various activities including a tour of the seafood market facilities, education on fish species identification, a demonstration of an eco-friendly fish trap, hands-on learning of fishing practices, a tour and short expedition aboard the fishing vessel FAL-MILY and an Epicurean Experience to taste a variety of Fish.

The students were very engaged and many expressed interest in pursuing careers in the Blue Economy. As a follow up to the session, students will have the opportunity to work with Pot fisher Chelston Moore to design and construct an eco-friendly fish pot for display at the Oceana Hub.
