This is a prestigious honor recognising Mr. Carter’s exceptional contributions to the export sector. The award was presented by Minister of Small Business & Energy, Hon. Senator Lisa Cummins.

Congratulations Mr. Carter, Keep striving for excellence!

Mr. Kelvin Carter was born on 4th May 1956. After leaving the Modern High School in 1974 he embarked on his chosen career in marketing. After working at a number of establishments including Leo Leacock and C.L. Pitt, the latter establishment providing him with the opportunity for travelling through the region, in 1987 he joined the staff of Fish of Barbados Ltd., one of the island’s leading fish processing companies involved in the export of fish, mainly tunas and swordfish to the USA at the time. He soon became marketing manager of the company.

Over his 13 years at the company, which included regular trips to the Miami-based fish import business that worked with Fish of Barbados Ltd., Kelvin acquired the suite of skills and training ranging from the processes for grading tunas, compliance with phytosanitary requirements, legal requirements for exporting fish to the US and importantly the business contacts that facilitated him taking on the role of a fish exporter. To this end after Fish of Barbados closed, in 2003 Kelvin opened his own tuna exporting company, Mr. Fish Inc. and has continued in the role of being the main exporter of whole tunas to the USA, a critical service for the Barbadian longline fishing industry. Kelvin is also well known for coordinating and sponsoring social events and supporting research initiatives to test new technologies. Kelvin is married and has 2 daughters and 1 son…we’ll wait to see if any will take Dad’s lead and participate in this important business.
