February 27th-March 1st 2026 saw an exciting period for the Barbados Fisheries Division. Foot traffic was heavy as patrons made their way through the Division's 40'x40' tent packed to the Brim (pun intended) with fun activities to become more familiar with Barbados' commercially important fish species.
Not only were visitors able to learn about the fish species, but they were able to engage all five senses as they interacted with the displays. They were able to see and touch the queen snapper and barracuda in the display case, smell and taste the delicious seared tuna, flyingfish and snapper prepared by the amazing chef Kendra Pooler, and hear the gurgling water from the pumps of the aquaponics exhibit, among many other things!
Throughout the weekend, the Division was also joined by Adams Aquafarm, the Coral Reef Restoration Alliance (CORALL), Export Barbados, Bloom from Within, and Ocential. This provided a much more rounded view of the partners within the fishing industry and how their work coincides with the Division's.
We also had the pleasure of welcoming the Permanent Secretary Mr. David Leacock of the Ministry of the Environment, National Beautification and Fisheries, and the Honorable Santia Bradshaw, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the same ministry to view the work the BFD had undertaken over the last few years.
Each year, our exhibit grows, and we hope you didn't miss this one! If you did, be sure to look out for us next year, where we will surely be bigger and better than the last!
