The 26th of January saw the kickoff of the Fishing Vessel Operations Level 3 NVQ Training. This course is being delivered under the Barbados Coastal Fisheries Resilience Project that is being implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Government and People of Japan and the Barbados Fisheries Division. TVET Council and the BDF Training Development Institute and Barbados Coast Guard are also valued partners in the delivery of the course.
Opening remarks were made by Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox, Chief Fisheries Officer of the Barbados Fisheries Division, followed by Ms. Limya Eltayeb, Resident Representative of the UNDP and Mr. Arata Nakae, Deputy Chief of Mission from the Embassy of Japan. Ms. Karietha Gill, Project Coordinator closed the ceremony with a Vote of Thanks.
Throughout the 8 week course, participants will learn the ins and outs of Seamanship and Fishing Vessel operations, ending with a certification from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council.
