Training workshops continued at the Fisheries Division this week (15 & 17 October 2024) with an emphasis on fish waste management. The interactive sessions were led by Safe Food Essentials as an activity delivered under the FAO Capacity Building for Improved Management and Optimized Utilization of Fish Waste Training Project. The first day involved presentations and discussion on the best practices for separation and quality control .

On the 17 October 2024, there were two field trips to a facility at the Ministry of Agriculture in Graeme Hall where the process of making fish silage was demonstrated. The visit to Shorelinez included a demonstration of fish discards being processed in the bioprocessor.

In the coming weeks, there will be training in the Bridgetown Public Market to promote best practices and establish a work flow for the production of good quality fish discards.
