Coral Bleaching Alert

/59.928

Due to recent high water temperatures it is predicted that bleaching is likely to occur over the next few weeks.

As you are no doubt aware, coral bleaching can occur when corals are stressed as a result of warmer than normal waters. As algae is expelled from living within their tissues, corals will become white and may eventually die as a result. Therefore, we are asking persons to look out for any instances of coral bleaching where possible and report sightings (species and locations) to the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU) via email ([email protected]) or through the CZMU website's Coral Bleaching Report Form (https://coastal.gov.bb/coral-bleaching-report/).

For further information you may contact Richard Suckoo, Marine Biologist, CZMU (535-5735).
